First of all, let me tell you I wasn't always so good at Melt and Pour. Ya right! I made a lot of mistakes but the funniest mistakes had to do with colorants.

My first batch of M&P was made with food coloring. Naturally, I wanted to make the soaps like I saw on other websites (the kind with colorful chunks and designs). I got my soap just the right shade of red, poured it onto a sheet of aluminum foil and cut it into chunks. Next I took my white base and poured it over the red chunks. COOL! I had red-and-white peppermint soap! I also made brown chunks that went into some really fun "chocolate chip" soap. Well to my total surprise, two days later both soaps were blobs of pinkish-red and doody brown. The chunks had bled all into the white. Boo hoo! I asked around the soap list, and everyone said if I didn't want the colors to bleed I had to use pigment. The colors have to be non-water soluble. Okay....

The next day I still wanted to play. I made some coffee soap. I added about a tablespoon of instant coffee to some opaque base. When I unmolded it it looked SO neat! The coffee had swirled into the  white and it looked like marble or some type of stone. Very nice. Needless to say, a few days later  that one was totally brown with black zits. My beautiful "marble" had turned to sludge!

I almost decided to give up, but then my color blocks from TKB came! The pearlescents were (still are) too fun! I made all kinds of sparkly soap. I went nuts with the stuff! I made gold chunks and poured clear base over them, I made "copper" bars, silvery fishies, etc.,  OOPS! I ran out of M&P!

When my second batch of M&P base arrived I was ready to try the pigments! SUCCESS!!! I made EVERY color chunk I could with those pigments! I poured clear and opaque bases over the chunks. I added pearlescents to the pigments so I could have shiny chunks. It worked! I was so happy! I gave out most of my bars to friends and family so they could see how fun this soap was. So far, the only thing I have not been able to get is a good red. I can't tell you how long I have wanted to make red and white chunk soap! I still have not tried D&C colors so I don't know how they work in M&P. I'd love to hear if anyone else has tried them in M&P.
