The American Art Today exhibit, originally named the Contemporary Art Building for the 1939 fair.  The sculpture on the left is Augusta Savage's The Harp (or Lift Every Voice).  The frame of the harp represents the arm of God, with the strings as singing people.  The building itself was conspicuous among the fair's structures in that its exterior was constructed of redwood.  (Frederick L. Ackerman, Joshua D. Lowenfish, and John V. Van Pelt, architects)
