September 19, 1932
The September 19 issue showed Col. Jacop Ruppert on its cover. Rupert, a brewer by profession, owned the New York Yankees since 1914 and famously purchased Babe Ruth from the Boston Red Soxs in 1920. The Yankees had not yet clinched the American League pennant, but their team led by Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Jimmie Foxx were virtually guaranteed of it. The Yankees were the heavy favorite to win the World Series yet again.
