This hypertext edition of Turner's The Frontier In American History
is taken from the 1921 edition published by Henry Holt and Company of New
York. The plates used for the 1921 edition, as well as most
subsequent editions, contain Turner's spelling variations and the
publisher's typographical errors. These anomalies have been preserved in
this hypertext edition.
The only deviation from the 1921 edition can be found in the footnote
annotation for Chapter III: The Old West. Here, Turner ended the initial
footnote sequence at 99 and began a second set of footnotes beginning with
one and ending with 35. The original numbering on the initial set has
been
preserved, but the numbering of the second set begins with 1a and ends
with 35a. Hopefully, the reader will find this formula less confusing in
the hypertext edition.
