"Let's Leave Out the Joker" (by Cowan in the Boston Transcript, No Date)

This cartoon is representative of the feelings of many Americans who believed Roosevelt was using the depression as justification for investing too much power in government. While he found overwhelming support for previous New Deal programs, the Agricultural Adjustment Act and National Industrial Recovery Act indicated an increased governmental presence in the sphere of business. The Supreme Court would eventually find both pieces of legislation to be unconstitutional.
