The Strange Dis/Appearance of Arthur G. Pym
Pym appears to be a tale of exploration and adventure. It has much in common with, and, in places, plagarizes, contemporaneous narratives of exploration. Yet in the final analysis, we cannot leave Pym feeling as we feel upon reaching the end of a travel narrative. We can begin by blaming this feeling on the intervention of the "shrouded human figure," however, the figure may be only the tip of the iceberg.
To address the mystery of Pym, we must first gather the facts. The facts, in this case, reveal yet another mystery. Getting to the mystery at the center of this mystery involves detective work. As to the solution, we may have to be satisfied with our reaching of a better vantage point.
