Alternative Final Projects

The following projects are suggested as general ideas alternative to Paper 3.

I hope some of you will take this opportunity to explore different aspects of the medieval West and the various expressions of humanity produced in Europe during the Middle Ages. If you choose to take one of these options, or if you think of another suitable one, we should have a conversation about it before you get started.

1. Create an illuminated manuscript.
2. Write a parody of a romance, an epic, or a Canterbury Tale.
3. A combination of 1 and 2.
4. Conduct research on one of the following: an archaeological project; a masterpiece of art or architecture; a particular text or tale; a town or locality; medieval technological or agricultural changes; or the life of a medieval individual. (I can provide a list for inspiration and offer initial directions toward useful resources.)
