"In the nature of things, luxuries and the comforts of life belong to the leisure class. Under the tabu, certain victuals, and more particularly certain beverages, are strictly reserved for the use of the superior class" (70).

In this scene, the privileged few, the golden ticket holders, are let loose on Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Before entering, the ticket holders all signed a contract stating that they would not eat or drink anything from the factory without having been specifically invited to do so. From this point on, one golden ticket holder exits the factory in each room, always for a violation of the clause of consumption.

The consumption of victuals like the gobstopper and beverages like liquid chocolate from the river and the fizzy lifting drinks are reserved for the special few, ultimately for Charlie, who rises at the end to the leisure class.
