Columbia General Store

Columbia, Virginia

The owner of the Columbia store, Dick, was not particularly interested in talking about my project, but he certainly did not have the time to since the lunch rush hour hit just as I stopped by. Dick was busy taking multiple orders like country ham sandwhiches for the equally busy Ann who was dilligently putting them together. While the store was certainly buzzing, Ann seemed at ease and while not eager to talk to me either, complied when I asked to take her photo.

Some waited for their sandwhiches outside. While there were a few women sitting in their cars, the majority of those milling about were men, and the favorite topics for the day seemed to be fishing.

Stepping back inside for a moment to say good-bye to Dick, one customer in line stopped me to refer me to another general store, Blanton & Pleasant in Cartersville.
