Billetheads and Fiddleheads
Shipbuilders sometimes used billetheads, or scrollheads, fitted to the bow instead of figureheads. A billethead had a downturned scroll; a fiddlehead had an upturned scroll. Popular billethead and fiddlehead designs included volutes, leaves, and rosettes.
