Parodies of Marin and Kuhn
Morning
Walt Kuhn
Morning
Numerous newspapers of the day drew parodies of the works in Gallery I, securing their memory in the minds of New Yorkers and future generations, but they also ridiculed paintings by "progressive" American painters like Kuhn and Marin. Above are versions of Marin's Woolworth Building (the text below reads "The ten-cent store with a soul.") and Kuhn's Morning. Under Kuhn's piece, the author wrote, "4th of July in Egypt: The Mexican Revolution has nothing on this painting."
