America in the 1930s

PROJECTS

The following projects are designed to illustrate how various American artists of the 1930s captured and created the spirit of their age, a time marked by the bleak reality of the Depression as well as the uplifting optimism linked with the progress of the machine age. This site will include not only the works of art, architecture, and design themselves but also the exhibitions, museums, and other spaces in which they were presented to a public yearning for a different identity.
